The 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The current version of the Jeep Grand Cherokee has been selling for the past decade which is normally a concern. A model going that long results in a stale design with outdated features. Luckily, Jeep has done an excellent job of keeping this SUV new and fresh. Most of the credit can be attributed to the mix of features and added technologies including the latest advanced driver safety gadgets, a crisp infotainment system, and a logical interior. Also, Jeep ditched the diesel-powered V6, but many options remain. In addition to power under the hood, the 2020 Grand Cherokee boasts fantastic off-road and towing capabilities as well as a variety of four-wheel-drive systems that can guide drivers far off the beaten path.

The 2020 Grand Cherokee offers four engine types: the standard V6 and three V8s which range from the 5.7L V8 with 360hp to the supercharged 6.2L V8 outputting 707hp so there is an engine for the daily commute and the off-road enthusiast. For a midsize SUV, the Grand Cherokee offers 7,200-pounds of towing capability which is industry-leading in this class. The brakes are extremely strong as it takes only 124-feet to go from 60mph-0. The 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee delivers an isolated feel when driving. The V6 is basically muted and quiet offering a serene driving experience. The standard V6 engine with eight-speed automatic produces 21 mpg combined fuel efficiency for the rear and four-wheel drive options which is standard for other SUVs in this class.

With plenty of interior space and a generous amount of legroom and headroom in all seating positions, the 2020 Grand Cherokee has a nice commanding driving position with simple controls and excellent visibility. With the controls placed logically, every feature and function the driver needs are within reach due to the seat and steering-wheel adjustability. The seats are incredibly supportive with an air conditioning system that works fast. Buyers can also purchase an optional air suspension system that makes the driver feel like they are floating while on the highway. While the Uconnect infotainment interface could use a facelift, it is simple to use and well designed. This model is incredibly versatile with 36.3 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats which are not industry-leading but that is due to the full-size spare tire under the rear floor.

As with most Jeeps, the 2020 Grand Cherokee scored high on the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration safety tests. Frontal Barrier Crash Rating received an overall 4/5, Side Crash Rating was 5/5, Side Barrier Rating was 5/5, and Combined Side Barrier and Pole Ratings was also 5/5. While there are several safety aids, the best three are Blind-Spot Monitoring, Forward Collision Mitigation, and Lane Departure Warning. Blind-Spot Monitoring alerts the driver of vehicles in the blind spot. Forward Collision Mitigation detects objects on the driver's course and applies emergency braking. Lane Departure Warning alerts the driver when they shift out of the lane and prompts correction to the heading. The strong body and chassis provide additional protection in the case of a collision.

The 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee has seven trim levels, Laredo, Limited, Trailhawk, Overland, Summit, STF, and Trackhawk, most of which are available in rear-wheel drive or four-wheel-drive. The base Laredo is equipped with a 3.6L V6 engine that produces 295hp and 260lb-ft. of torque with an eight-speed automatic transmission, dual-zone climate control, rear parking sensors, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a 7-inch touchscreen, and six-speaker sound system. The Limited also offers a 5.7L V8 engine, power liftgate, remote start, heated seats and steering wheel, leather upholstery, and an 8.4-inch touchscreen. The Trailhawk is off-road focused and adds distinctive styling, electronic rear differential, off-road tires, and adjustable air suspension. The Overland is similarly equipped with more premium equipment. The luxury Summit adds self-parking, noise-canceling, advanced safety features, 19-speaker Harman Kardon audio, and leather upholstery. The SRT trim comes standard with a 6.4L V8 engine, a special all-wheel-drive system, performance tires, and a sport body kit. The Trackhawk adds a supercharged engine, upgraded transmission, adaptive suspension, and lightweight 20-inch wheels.
